Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. – Philippians 4:8
From Oswald Chambers – literally, the things that have a fine face, a winning and attractive tone about them.
I equate this to our blessings we should be focused on each day. Here is the catch, we look for our blessings in the circumstances, things and people that we are drawn to. We leave out the things of good report from those people and things that might take some extra patience and grace on our part.
The challenge is seeing other people through Jesus lenses. Seeing the good qualities in others that we deem unholy. The truth is we should never look for others to be holy, it only stands to make us see ourselves and other people through flesh eyes and not the eyes of Christ. This puts us in a heightened place and other beneath us. That is not Christ-like.
“Judge not lest ye be judged” and “love thy neighbor as one’s self” come to mind as a reminder.
Today, think on someone who tries your patience and grace. Name three things about them of good report.
