After Operation Desert Storm, the military went through years of budget cuts. Forcing the top leaders to pick and choose the Noncommissioned officers(NCO) who had demonstrated better than average leadership abilities to keep in their ranks.
In an effort to keep me and a fellow NCO in the Marine Corps Reserves, they decided to promote us to Staff Sergeants to show they believed in our abilities. At the time, I was 24 years old, married with 2 children and starting a promising career in IT. This was the same story for my fellow Marine.
We both passed on this opportunity to find our own successful paths in the civilian world. From time to time I regret my decision not to stay. At the time, I didn’t realize the honor they had put on me by promoting me and asking me to stay.
I do not say these things to build myself up, but to tell another war story. The minions of the dark are pressing down on this world. The Commandant of the universe has seen the potential in every living human being. He has asked us to serve with Him in this battle.
This is where we make the choice to serve with Him to battle the evil we experience everyday or just focus on our daily lives.
