This weekend I attended a sermon that was focused on sacrifice. The level of sacrifice we will give is in direct relation to the amount of value we put on an item.
So, I started listing things I value based on what I spend time and money on. As the list grew I started to think through the people and items on the list. Family, health, board games, video games, fishing, relationship with God, etc etc etc…
Then God’s word that I use very often, hit me in the face. Love God, Love Others! This is what is important, to Love my God with all my body, spirit and mind and to treat others as I would want to be treated.
Then another scripture this morning.
“Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also everyone for those of others.”
Here is what I see in this. I might put value on a board game or my health or ANY other interest I might have, but not at the expense of Loving my God, our loving others. Everything I hold of value that is not God or others need to to be considered expendable. I need to be able to lay down those items ( die to self ) if it means showing Love to God or others.
What are your expendable items? do you put them above other people, or heaven forbid God Himself?
