Honest/Honorable

Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. – Philippians 4:8

Today I read about the second word in this scripture that we are called to think on, honesty. This word was originally used in relation to the gods, and things that pertained to them. In Oswald Chambers study on this verse, he makes sure that we see that it is not just about scripture and God, but also about natural and moral items as well.

Honest/honorable things show bring on a sense of awe in us, a sun set, a mountain range, a life lived fully dependent on God. (Job 13:15)

What things to you find yourself thinking about when you hear the word honest? Does it relate to all things, or have you reserved it for one area of life?
