Painful generosity

Romans 12:9-16

Brothers and sisters:
Let love be sincere;
hate what is evil,
hold on to what is good;
love one another with mutual affection;
anticipate one another in showing honor.
Do not grow slack in zeal,
be fervent in spirit,
serve the Lord.
Rejoice in hope,
endure in affliction,
persevere in prayer.
Contribute to the needs of the holy ones,
exercise hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you,
bless and do not curse them.
Rejoice with those who rejoice,
weep with those who weep.
Have the same regard for one another;
do not be haughty but associate with the lowly;
do not be wise in your own estimation.
exercise hospitality

There is an ugly word for some of us.

Exercise

To exercise is to push beyond the normal amount of effort to improve. Pushing the limits of what you normally.

But what about hospitality?

Definition of the word states “the quality or disposition of receiving and treating guests and strangers in a warm, friendly,generous way.

Treating guest AND strangers warm, friendly and generous… can we take that a few steps further. Even when they don’t deserve it. Even if they do not show the same level of warmth or friendliness or generosity.
